Hmmm

"One thing there is which all Satan's cunning and all the snares of temptation cannot take by surprise, and that is simplicity."  -Soren Kierkegaard

(I was  reading The Celebration of Discipline and this quote was in the section on simplicity.)

  2. Heh, you have caught me in my selfishness.

Basically, what I take it to mean is that a simple lifestyle, living by means as we are commanded to in the gospel, once you have developed this lifestyle, it cannot be taken by surprise.

You do not wake up one day and find yourself with a hummer and yacht and all.

But I'm afraid I need to get to the primary source, cause quoting a quoter can lead to trouble. (Foster is using it in the context of simplicity of speech "Let your yes be yes and your no be no.")
